Hardwicks work is inspired by land and tide and looks at the geological, archaeological and transient nature of the landscape using the power of paint and texture.
His images are room sized and heavily textured with different types of paints, plastics and other collage materials such as roofing felt and sack cloth. The work requires idiosyncratic mark making techniques such as scratching, burning and pouring to create the visual histories and residues required
ANDREW HARDWICK
"My work looks at the geological and transient nature of the landscape using the power of paint and texture, the images require an idiosyncratic working techniques using a combination of different types of paint , materials, glazes and varnishes as well as mark making techniques such as scratching and burning to create the visual histories and residues required.
The work for open studios comes from a series of winter walks mainly around the south west of Dartmoor, when large white skies predominated, the work looks at how this seemingly barren landscape changes in wind, rain, mist ,snow and ice."
